Susan Boyle, one of contenders for the show Britain’s Got Talent, proved to the world how judgmental it can be and how unfounded its judgments are. When Boyle, the 47-year-old simpleton, entered the stage, everybody thought, “Here’s another geek, trying to gain a 15-minute fame!” She was laughed at. Judging from her naive demeanor, it seemed as if she has grown accustomed to being a laughing stock and she can only careless because she was the center of attention. Boyle carried herself so well in front of the critical public and her rendition of Les Miserables’ I Dreamed a Dream proved their prejudices wrong.
The clip below shows how crooked people’s perceptions and biases are when it comes to physical appearance. To which, I would like to commend Amanda Holden, one of the judges, for admitting the obvious fact:
I am so thrilled because I know that everybody was against you. I honestly think that we were all being very cynical, and I think that’s the biggest wake-up call ever. And I just want to say that it was a complete privilege listening to that.
